About Me! |
I would like to introduce myself! I am originally from Bryn Mawr,
Pennsylvania. I graduated from Cabrini College in 1994 with elementary
education and psychology degrees. I taught preschool with another
teacher, and then I became an assistant director for 5 years during and
right after college. After five years, I moved to St. Joseph (1996) to
be near my wonderful family. Soon after I moved to Saint Joseph, I found
a great job training daycare teachers and providers at Educare (Youth
Alliance) before deciding to teach again.
In 1998, I began teaching at Lindbergh Elementary School. I taught
fourth grade for two years and third grade for five years. Then I moved
to Pershing…then to Humboldt to teach 3rd grade for another
five years. During those times, I have received my Masters in Reading
Education from Northwest State University in December of 2004. I was
also a reading specialist at Humboldt (two years). Finally, I am at
Hosea to teach 6th grade! I LOVED teaching 3rd and 4th grade, but I have always wanted to teach 6th
grade…So, here I am! As you can see, I am blessed to have met so many
wonderful teachers…they helped me to be the teacher I am today.
Here is something unique about me…I am deaf, and I read lips. I was
born deaf, and I have always been around hearing people since my parents
wanted me to be the best I could be, REGARDLESS of my handicap. I wore
a hearing aid in my left ear ever since I was 2 years old (I could hear
10 percent without my hearing aid in my left ear, which is why I could
use a hearing aid, and in my right ear, I have no hearing at all). As
you will see, I have always lived the motto, “Silence will not take me
away…I will do everything in my power to be who I want to be…no matter
what other people say!” Well, I am doing what I have always wanted to
do…TO BE A TEACHER!
Five years ago, I have lost that 10 percent I had left in my left ear.
Therefore, my hearing aid was useless. (Boy, that was so scary!) I
now wear a cochlear implant in my left ear. The ONLY problem I have is
understanding others on a phone. (THANK GOODNESS everyone wants to
text these days!)
I have never had any problems
teaching because of this handicap. All students that I have had
previously never had any problems understanding me, and they have always
been so kind and understanding of my situation. This is true of the
parents that I had previously as well. I have been teaching for a total
of 15 years, and I have never once had any problems. I loved every
single student and families of all ages! This is why I love
teaching…you can be WHATEVER you want to be if you stick your mind to
it, and if you BELIEVE in yourself. My teachers helped me to be I
wanted to be…Now, it is my job to help you, my students, be the person
you would like to be…it is all about choices.
I
am so looking forward to meeting you and see how unique you are as
well! You will be entering the PEACE, LOVE, AND RESPECT zone! It is
like FAR OUT!
